BASKETBALL COACHES

As the season closes, each Rookie, Minor, & Junior League team needs to designate one (1) Sportsmanship award winner.  It is not necessarily the MVP, but rather the boy or girl who throughout the season displayed the best sportsmanship and honored the game.  For example, some thoughts for selection might be; who was the player that was always at practice and willing to help his/her teammates or coach, who was courteous to teammates, other players, officials, and to their coaches.  Who, no matter if they won or lost, displayed a good attitude at games and practices. A Webster dictionary defines Sportsmanship as:

"Skill in or devotion to sports; especially, conduct becoming to a sportsman, involving honest rivalry and graceful acceptance of results."

For those of you who have a difficult time making a selection, we would advise explaining to your players what Sportsmanship is all about and what it is we are looking for and then, let them select or vote on a player.  Once your team has made a selection, please advise the RYS office which player on your team was selected by calling 886-0797 or email to director@racineyouthsports.com at your earliest convenience.  Sportsmanship awards are now available - please contact the office at 886-0797 to arrange for a pick-up time.

When coaches are returning their practice balls they will also be able to pick up their coach plaque/ picture.  Coaches, please call the office to arrange a time to return practice balls and pickup your coach plaque/picture.  Please remember to return your practice balls.

As there will not be a formal basketball banquet this year, coaches along with parents are encouraged to consider having an end of the season activity with their team.

Coaching Etiquette:  As part of the good sportsmanship expected by coaches, you are also reminded that running-up-the-score on opponents is not in the best interests of the program or the participants.  If you happen to become involved in a game when the score reaches an insurmountable point,  it is recommended, and the winning coach is strongly encouraged, to work on some other fundamentals of good basketball such as perhaps implementing that your team make a certain number of passes before shooting again.  Coaches, we thank you in advance for understanding this element of good sportsmanship.

Remember, during the season, when bad weather is present or if you are in doubt whether gyms will be open for games or practice, you can contact the school directly where your team has been playing or practicing.  As a general rule, there will be no games or practice at schools that were closed for the day.

PARENTS & COACHES - THERE IS NO PARKING ON THE GRASS AT THE TAYLOR HOME SITE!  YOU CAN PARK ON TAYLOR AVENUE IF NEEDED.
